Rick Maurer

Rick Maurer is an internationally recognized thought leader on how people experience organizational change — especially why good initiatives get stuck and what leaders can do about it. For more than three decades, he has helped executives, project teams, and internal change leaders move beyond compliance and into genuine commitment by understanding the human dynamics beneath resistance and support.

Rick’s work is grounded in a simple but powerful insight: resistance is not a personality flaw, a failure of leadership, or something to “overcome.” Instead, it is a natural, relational response that emerges when people feel uncertain, unheard, or disconnected from a change. When leaders understand this, they can shift from pushing harder to engaging more effectively — building trust, clarity, and shared ownership that allows change to move forward.

He is the author of the influential book Beyond the Wall of Resistance, which introduced a practical framework for diagnosing and responding to resistance in ways that preserve relationships while strengthening results. Since then, his ideas have been adopted by leaders across industries, including healthcare, technology, government, education, and global corporations undergoing large-scale transformation.

Rick works with clients through keynotes, facilitated strategy sessions, executive coaching, and interactive workshops that blend psychological insight with real-world practicality.

Over the years, Rick has partnered closely with consultants and leadership teams in Europe, North and South America, India, Russia, and South Korea.

Known for his clear thinking, humor, and human-centered perspective, Rick brings both rigor and empathy to every engagement. His ultimate goal is not just better change initiatives, but healthier organizations where people can disagree, collaborate, and make progress together.
